Every once in a while I see someone asking his Facebook friends for “a guaranteed way to make money online”. Often they’re also looking for a “mentor” that they can guarantee them success. If you ever considered paying someone or buying an internet marketing course, I hope you understand that this isn’t the magical solution.
However, I do believe that affiliate marketing is still one of the easiest ways to make money online. But it takes time to be successful at it. Making money online requires 2 things: experience and hard work. The best advice I can give people is to just get started today!
Spending a lot of time on research and study will make you experienced. Hard work simply means that you won’t make a million $’s by working 5 minutes a day. The good news is that when you follow the basic steps, you will eventually make money.
How To Get Started
If you have never done anything related to affiliate marketing, then this blog post could show you the way. In this blog post I will teach you how to build an affiliate marketing website that markets physical products.
Last week I launched a new affiliate marketing website that markets an all-natural weight loss product. Not only can you order the product on the website, you can also join as an affiliate and make money by promoting it.
Although the product launch is planned for somewhere this month, I have already put the site online last week and it will be bringing in money while I’m still optimizing it and adding content to it.
Domain Name + Hosting
Once you have set up everything, you will have to make one of the most important decisions: which design/theme will you use?
Internet marketing is more than ever about user-friendliness. There are billions of websites out there and internet-users are pickier than ever when it comes to staying on your site. So not only do your titles need to be attractive and your content interesting and satisfying, the design also needs to be easy to navigate.
About Me Section
People buy from people. So if you want to maximize your sales, you will need to connect with your visitor. You don’t need to include a full biography on your website, but always make sure that you at least present yourself to your visitor.
The Home Page
Your home page is without a doubt the most important page of your website. It’s usually also the page that you’re trying to rank in the search engines first. That’s why it should be content-rich and satisfy your visitor as much as possible.
Your home page should include:
1. Site navigation
On your home page you can put a short overview of the most important pages of your site. This helps your visitor to find the information they are looking for.
Having a couple of pages or blog posts with duplicate content is not a disaster. However, if you have too much duplicate content Google might punish you for it and derank your site. I do recommend you to avoid any duplicate content on your home page since that’s the one you really want to rank first.
All the information about the product/service (minimum of a 1,000 words, preferably unique content; you should also add an image or video)
- What are the ingredients? How does the product/service work? What is the product’s unique selling proposition? Why are other people choosing this product/service?
- Pro’s and con’s of the product. People are looking for information before buying a product/service. By offering an honest comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of the product you are giving them the information they are looking for.
3. Call to action
Your home page has to offer an option to buy the product/service, including an enticing and straight-forward call to action (for instance “Order Product X Today”).
Often people make the mistake by only offering the product/service somewhere in the sidebar of their website or through an almost invisible text link. To increase your chances on conversion, you have to put the product in sight of your potential customer. That’s why I always opt for colorful tables that also show additional information like the price.
Social sharing is one of the most important marketing strategies these days. There are 2 major ways to increase you visibility on social network sites:
1. Create A (Facebook) Fan Page
Create a FB fan page and connect it to your website. You can post new information, blog posts, promotions, contests, testimonials on the fan page. This is the easiest way to create a following online.
2. Install A Social Sharing Plug In
Even Google admits that SEO in the future will be more and more influenced by social sharing. Just like backlinks from other website are counting as “votes” in favor of another site, social shares are now also being seen as an important signal.
If you don’t enable social sharing of your content and website pages, you are always missing out on valuable traffic. I use the Digg Digg WordPress plugin.
I use Disqus as comment system. I started to use this system only a couple of months ago because it’s more user-friendly than the original WordPress comment system.
The more comments your page has, the more search engines like Google believe that it’s an authority page. Some people even start to claim that Google has access to the data of plug ins like Disqus.
Hopefully this overview gave you an insight into how you build an affiliate marketing website. Setting up your first website will take many days when it’s your first time. But after a while everything can easily be done in just a couple of hours. The success, however, is in optimizing your site and content and learning how to start affiliate marketing to it.
